in the market I obtained seeds and

supplied the native gardeners with them at cost price and gave chem

also translated instructions in culti vation which together with the stimulus of horticultural exhibitions that were held annually for many years soon produced a good supply of vegetables for the market. Similar effects might be made at this time, without adopting the unnecessary and expensive method which the Food Supply Commission recommended when they proposed that an European gardener with a staff of thinose should be employed at each Police Station in the New Territory to grow vegetables; that would be a cost entirely out of proportion to the proposed object.
